Images of New York City (china town, battery park city) Post Hurricane Irene

So hurricane Irene made landfall today (sunday) in New York City. Classified as Category 1, it was expected that Irene might do so extensive damage. However, it seems that the mighty hurricane decided to spare much of manhattan, and the greater city in general. Even though significant damage was report, Manhattan was pretty much spared. In fact we went for a post landfall survey today between 1 to 4 pm visiting areas in chinatown, the FDR, the south street seaport, staten island ferry terminal, battery park, world trade center and then back up to Nolita. The assessment was overwhelmingly positive - that city had hardly been ravaged by the nighty Irene. In fact, barring some tine puddles of water, a few scattered branches and the general emptiness, the aftermath was markedly unnoticeable

Here are some pictures of the Post Irene scene in New York City

2. Scattered Branches on Allen Street in Chinatown

3. A Fallen Bike near Chinatown

4. A manhole, possibly shifted by the might of Irene

Non stop 24 hr hacking and coding at the TechCrunch Disrupt Conference

What a day!! Non stop, adrenalin fueled from scratch to a fully functioning App! had a great time at the TechCrunch disrupt Hackathon - met some of the coolest, creative and talented developers on this side of the silicon valley. Some of the 60 apps build just were way out there - like the FutureMario guy who controlled the mario game with blinks of his eye (he won the competition).

we guys built the first web app that used the Facebook API and the Google Charts API to make LikeALytics.com - sort of Google Analytics for the Facebook Like button on your website

We all know how big Facebook Like button has become or can be and 100k+ sites have implemented the same and billions of likes have been recorded. LikeA-lytics.com provides Analytics on how much a websites content is being "liked" on facebook -

-the daily count of likes across all the domain urls,
-the top liked posts,
-the most liked bloggers of the domain
-Comparison of likiness of a site with another

We have currently built this to display data for both TechCrunch.com and ReadWriteWeb.com and we will release the site with the ability to provide data for any given site with a feed in a week

Check it out and let us know what you think

Some of the coolest apps were the FutureMario guys, the guy who built a 3-d scanner from two web cams and laser light pointer. And of course there were the MakerBot guys - way too cool - they make printers that can print 3-d objects !!!

Random Sightings in New York City - Asbestos Kills and Roller Blading Dudes

Just happened to walk past this coffin in display which has a dummy guy with a mask inside it. An interesting way to increase awareness that 'Asbestos Kills' see below

And then 3 days back after getting out of my yoga class i saw this gang of dudes roller blading, skating and boarding off on 7th avenue - there must have been like 30 of them

NYC, the city always has more for you then once can imagine.

Some pictures of a walk in the city after a snow blast

Some pictures as i went walking one morning along the Hudson River as it curves along battery park after the major snow storm 2 weeks ago - it was incredible and more so to see people out and about with the same enthusiasm as a regular Sunday morning - salute to the energy or New York City and New Yorkers (and to the tourists who flock to this park)

The pictures are tiny (the samsung cell phone setting probably got whacky)

Even the Birds are out and About
